I will admit, admit that I have slacked off. I would say that I have been busy but if you really love something, as they say, you will find time for it.

I am finding time.

I am looking for inspiration. Searching and hopeful that I will stay positive, growing ever more creative.

It’s hard. It takes more commitment and time than you may have imagined. It’s an investment and once you stop, as they say, it’s harder to get started, again. I am getting starting again. I. AM. IN.

I am in it–not–to win it but for the sanity. There are things we all have to do to stay sane. This. This humble little blog of mine, it’s about the writing. Honestly. I love writing. I own books on how to write. I read the books about how some of my favorite authors write. I love knowing that authors re-write entire books of their favorite authors to be better writers. That’s borderline. It’s dedication. It is the sincerest form of … inspiration.

And sometimes I bang on my keyboard a little too hard because I wish it was a typewriter.

As the heat turned up to nearly unbearable I found inspiration in unlikely places: right in front of me. Whilst I was seeking sweet relief. The Peach Basil Cocktail.

Simple syrup: equal parts sugar and water. ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water. In small saucepan mix the water and sugar over medium high heat until dissolved. Remove from heat and add a handful of basil. Once cooled a bit pour simple syrup with basil into mason jar, allow to rest overnight. In the morning remove basil. C'est fini!

To make the cocktail:

1.5 ounces simple syrup, small handful of chopped peaches (skinned), muddle peaches, a few leaves of fresh basil and mint in the bottom of pint mason jar, add ice, 2 oz spiced rum, and club soda. Quick stir and drink!
